"I have family in the construction industry, so I have been on jobsites since I was a kid and have always been interested in construction. But interest doesn’t translate to the skills and ability to manage in an efficient and professional way. 

With so many of my current projects entailing kitchen renovations and refreshes, I was seeing the need for support in how to work as a team with my contractors versus micromanaging the project. 

So much of my focus can be on the design and the implementation and closing or finishing well can easily become an afterthought. This is one of the main areas of irritation with new clients who have worked with designers in the past, is they have great designs and they like the results, but at the end, the projects did not close well.

The emotional process and journey a client goes on was one of the biggest lightbulb moments for me. Not only have I been able to utilize this knowledge in interacting with my clients positively the day I learned it, but I have also been able to educate my contractors in the process of a project and especially in closing a project well.  One project, this knowledge informed when to encourage a client to move back into their home and avoiding a less than positive close to a long standing very large project.

"This course is the complete package when it comes to learning what it takes to manage construction projects! As a new designer, I wanted to make sure I had the technical knowledge and skills to ensure a good project outcome.

At the same time, so much of doing this work well involves relationships, including how to partner with contractors, architects, etc. And this relationship-based work is extremely nuanced. For example, how do you hold the vision for the design of the project and manage the overall process, but not MICRO manage contractors or others on the team. It's not an easy task! This course tackles the technical and relationship-based aspects of this work in equal measure and has been so helpful to me.

In addition, Renee also includes an entire module on business management, including pricing and marketing. I keep coming back to these lessons as I work to hone my messaging and connect with industry partners. I would add that I have come across A LOT of interior design business coaches and trainings over the past few years. However, I haven't found anyone else who is guiding and supporting designers specifically in the areas of renovation and construction. 'The templates alone are gold'

I had been listening to Renee’s podcast for over a year. In 2020 I took a residential renovation project management course but at that time in my business, I knew I wanted to take on larger projects but I knew there were things I didn’t know in respect to construction, and it was a great place to start but the course price was low, and like anything, you get what you pay for. It was a good start for me but it was (what I now know - an extra light version of your course). I took what they taught and put that into practice for a couple of years but every 2-3 years max I go through all of my systems and processes in my business and see where there are opportunities to increase efficiencies and what that looks like because at the end of the day we all want to make more money right? And I believe that increasing these efficiencies helps increase your profit margin. 

I also felt like there were often experiences on the jobsite where things didn’t go as smoothly as they could have, and it’s easy to point the finger at somebody else, but I have learned that when you point the finger at yourself there are many more pointing as yourself. So I ask myself - what was my role in this, what can I improve, and how can I prevent this from happening ever again

And what I learned is that I still had gaps in my knowledge in construction management knowledge at that time, which meant it put me in a position of vulnerability with contractors and trades, in not knowing whether or not what they were telling me was correct. And I didn’t like that. 

Then a design friend of mine told me about your podcast. And I listened, to all of them! And I realized that there was still a lot that I didn’t know. And a lot of it was templates - going back to my love for processes. And one of my big blocks was knowing what to communicate and having the templates in place to support the process. And when I looked at your course I thought - wow, in my opinion, the templates alone are gold. The whole course is really great value for the investment. I most definitely recommend it!
